Notion Developer Platform
Build on Notion, not just inside it Discussion | Link
Our Take
Notion started as Ivan Zhao and Simon Last's side project—two engineers who wanted to build something better than the broken tools they were using at work. They almost ran out of money twice, nearly folded in 2014, rebuilt from scratch in Kyoto, and then moved to SF where they raised $170 million at a $2 billion valuation. Now they're worth over $5 billion and they've basically convinced half the tech world to replace every other tool with one app.
The Notion Developer Platform is their play to become the operating system for everything—not just a place to take notes, but a platform where developers can actually build ON top of Notion. Think custom integrations, automations, internal tools, plugins. They opened up their API and said "go crazy." Since then, thousands of companies have built on top of Notion—automating workflows, creating CRMs, building knowledge bases that actually work. It's the "build on Notion, not just inside it" philosophy. The developer ecosystem is the unlock that could make Notion the next platform layer instead of just another tool in the stack.
If you're building something and Notion isn't part of your stack yet, you're behind. They need developers who see what a developer platform SHOULD look like in 2024.
